*National Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEFL) Week will be observed from September 19 to September 25. Join us in the LINCS Community for the following live events and hosted discussions highlighting the positive impact of adult education on work, family and community life.

Hosted Discussion: LINCS Community Round Robin for AEFL Week

Description: To celebrate AEFL Week, LINCS Community moderators are hosting round robin discussions all week! Each day we’ll introduce a new topic considering a different aspect of AEFL in a different group. Topics will include personal and workplace skills; literacy and numeracy; equity and access from a content perspective; family literacy instructional strategies; role of identity in students’ success; technology integration; and value of TSTM resources for English learners. Be part of these important conversations!

Description: Can writing about math improve adult students’ ability to learn math? Yes, it can! Join the LINCS Reading and Writing and Math groups for an interactive presentation on classroom-ready techniques for using writing as a tool to help students succeed in math. It’s all “write” to bring your questions and ideas too!

Live Session: Innovations in Digital Literacy for Non-literate and English Learners at Tyson Foods

Description: Join us to learn how Tyson Foods implements digital literacy for its largely immigrant and refugee frontline workforce in plants across the country. Challenges and solutions for supporting rural areas and going digital with non-literate and English Learners will be discussed by Tyson representatives Anson Green, Della Adams, and Julie Clark. The session will describe their innovative program and workarounds for implementing digital literacy with adult education partners, and close with a discussion of options for reporting digital literacy in the National Reporting System.

Live Session: Bringing Families Together Through Education

Description: Join the Correctional and Reentry Education group and the Coalition on Adult Basic Education’s Literacy Behind & Beyond the Walls Committee as we talk about bringing families together who have been touched by our justice systems. This open forum will explore ways to bring families together through learning and share our successes, resources, and best practices for keeping the family bond strong through education, even in the most challenging of times. Bringing Families Together Through Education is a special presentation in recognition of Adult Education & Family Literacy Week.
