Teaching the Skills That Matter in Adult Education – Cohort 5 Informational Webinar

Teaching the Skills That Matter in Adult Education – Cohort 5 Informational Webinar

OCTAE is excited to announce the Teaching the Skills that Matter in Adult Education (TSTM) Cohort 5 professional development training opportunity. TSTM is an Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education (OCTAE) funded technical assistance project designed and focused on building capacity and improving instruction to build the skills adult learners need to meet the demands of critical domains of their lives. In its 5th year, the TSTM project has provided training to adult educators from 31 states and has hosted two virtual conferences with attendance of over 1,000 adult educators each year. TSTM supports and trains adult education teachers how to integrate the nine skills that matter to adult learners using three approaches that work across five critical topics areas of civics education, digital literacy, financial literacy, health literacy and workforce preparation.

TSTM professional development training happens through state teams of four nominated classroom teachers and a state professional development leader. Each state team can expect to participate in an 8-month cohort training along with other state teams. In addition to support, training, and instructional materials, teachers will receive individualized instructional coaching from experienced peer coaches familiar with TSTM.

Applications for Cohort 5 will open on Friday, June 3, 2022, and will be open for up to 10 states to participate in the TSTM professional development training. Applications will be due on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, and can be found on the LINCS TSTM Federal Initiatives page located under State Resources.

To support states in understanding the requirements for TSTM participation and in successfully submitting their state team application, the TSTM project team will be hosting a TSTM Informational Webinar on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 3 pm ET.

State adult education directors (or an appropriate state designee) are invited to register for the webinar by Friday, May 27, 2022. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
